Dear AlterNet Reader,

What were you afraid of on September 11 ? What frightens you today, one year later ?
Your two answers are probably quite different. On that horrifying day, we had a common enemy : the individuals who committed the 9/11 attacks. But today, it is no longer clear who the real enemy is.
Even as we send you this letter, our government is preparing to start another war with Iraq, corporate corruption is rampant, our civil liberties are being threatened, and millions of people have lost their jobs and their savings.

One year ago, AlterNet’s readership tripled as people tried to understand 9/11. Today, AlterNet is still here for you. We’re committed to keeping you up to date about your government, your health, your rights, your livelihood, and the current events that affect your life.
AlterNet brings you the behind-the-scenes stories that never make it to your daily papers, a mix of the political and the personal that you won’t find anywhere else, and hope for a saner future. And in response to your requests, AlterNet continues to grow. We have recently added new pages on Rights and Liberties and the Possible War in Iraq, and will add a page on the anniversary of 9/11 tomorrow.

It is absolutely free to receive AlterNet’s twice-weekly headlines and visit our Web site, and we plan to keep it that way. But to keep us alive and kicking, AlterNet needs your support.
Please consider making a donation to AlterNet so we can keep the information flowing to you. It will only take a moment of your time, and every dollar makes a difference to us.
Click here to make a tax-deductible donation right now, which you can do online via our secure site, or by fax or check.

A year after 9/11, it’s easy to feel discouraged as we grapple with difficult issues that have a huge impact on our lives. But we must remind ourselves of what we still have : the power and the means to make a difference.

Thank you for supporting AlterNet and for investing in independent media.
Sincerely,
Don Hazen, Executive Editor
